On Aug. 22, nine members of the Lexington Minute Men traveled to New York to take part in the 250th anniversary reenactment of the Battle of Brooklyn, the largest battle of the Revolutionary War in terms of troop deployment.

The Lexington Minute Men joined hundreds of other reenactors to bring the battle to life for thousands of spectators. The reenactment was held at Prospect Park in present-day Brooklyn, near the site where the original battle took place 250 years ago.

The battle ended with the Americans retreating from the battlefield after the British army outflanked the American defenses. Suffering significant losses, the remaining American forces withdrew as the British took control of New York City. General George Washington was able to evacuate approximately 9,000 Continental troops to Manhattan, allowing the American army to fight another day.“We had a great time participating in the Battle of Brooklyn reenactment,” said Captain Commanding Dave Gipson. “Traveling throughout the region to share the story of the larger, pivotal battles of our nation’s early history is a gratifying experience for all of us. We enjoy connecting with new audiences, visiting important historical sites, and keeping American Revolutionary history alive for future generations.”
